Are you craving that warm piece of apple pie, with crunchy toasted bits of pecan, garnished with some blue bell ice cream? Well I have the perfect recipe for you! This pie is the perfect treat for your Friendsgiving/Thanksgiving guests or even just for you to enjoy!

Now I like to give credit where credit is due! The basic apple pie recipe is from Paula Deen, however I added some pecans to give it that extra crunch! Now story time! My grandmother recently passed away this last summer but, I remember going to her house as a child and eating my breakfast while she watched the food network! And guess what was on, Paula Deen of course! Over the summer, I tried some recipes from the food network site and it really made me feel closer to my grandmother. Around this time of year Thanksgiving was definitely on her mind. She would wake up before the sun was out, and prepare all of the food, making a heavenly Thanksgiving spread for the whole family. The whole kitchen was full of wonderful smelling food as she rushed around trying to get everything together before the guests arrived! So I guess you can say I got my cooking skills and love for baking from my grandmother.

Here is the link to her full recipe!

Ingredients:

-3/4 cup brown sugar

-1/4 cup all purpose flour

-3/4 tbs ground cinnamon

-ground nutmeg (pinch)

-7 medium green apples peeled and sliced

-1 lemon, zested and juiced

-store bought pie crust (you can make your own I was just pressed on time, I used Pillsbury)

-2 eggs for egg wash

-Sugar to sprinkle on top

-1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

1) Preheat oven to 375 degrees F

2) In a medium sized bowl mix together the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, chopped pecans, and nutmeg. In a second medium sized bowl sprinkle the peeled and sliced apples with lemon juice and lemon zest.

3) Pour the dry mixture over the apples till they are evenly coated.

4) Set the apple mixture aside, and roll your pie dough (if you use Pillsbury there should be 2 crusts, one for the top and one for the bottom). Grab a 9 inch pie pan and place the dough in the bottom of the pan. You can fold the edges however you would like (I just used a fork to press all the way around).

5) Once your pie crust is in the pan, poke the bottom of the pie crust with a fork in multiple places (I poked the crust about 5 times).

6) Pour in the apple mixture and evenly spread, garnish with some cubes of butter.

7) For the top pie crust, I cut into 1/2 inch strips. I placed three strips down horizontally, I then braided some strips and placed those between the straight strips. Next I weaved in plain strips vertically (like weaving a basket). If you want the classic pie look you can simply place the crust over the top and make some vents in the top of the pie.

8) Finally grab your egg mixture and brush the top of the pie, sprinkle with some sugar and pop into the oven!

9) Bake the pie for 40-50 minutes, I believe I baked it for 45 minutes and let it cool for 30 minutes!

10) I decorated the pie with some small greenery and a yellow rose! I also dusted some powdered sugar!

Enjoy <3
